I posted "Pass The Squishy" by Jennifer Medina from the New York Times before, but I don't think the link was working properly. It's such a good article about reaching behaviorally challenged foster children that I wanted to share it again! I have written about allowing areas in the classroom so children can decompress or escape for a few minutes. For the children in this article, it's especially important because this is the first school designed to serve broken families---over 1/3 of the students are in foster care!
I have been teaching early childhood for about 20 years. I love what I do---it's the best job in the world!!! Where else can you go to work each day and do art, play games, have snack and get hugs regularly AND get paid for it?! I love to share ideas with other teachers and see what they are doing in their classrooms. Teaching is the best profession---we love to share!
